Have you ever considered the excessive behavior associated with wanting and demanding? We are insatiable. Our detailed existence offers us so much content; yet most people seem so discontent. This statement may cause frustration or even anxiety in you. This is because the mind will offer thoughts that insist that you are happy. It will deny wanting anything. The internet dictionary defines discontent as “A restless longing for better circumstances.”
Resentment is a synonym of discontent . It is defined as “bitter indignation at having been treated unfairly.” Why do we always demand something new or different? Is it because we think people, situations and even life are treating us unfairly or cruelly? Furthermore, there is also an unquenchable need to search for something, anything that might satisfy the unhappiness that seems to thrive on our discontentment like a parasite.
I have included a poem below that was in the original manuscript of my first book (One Moment in Life). The published book has two poems; one at the beginning and one at the end.
Live without Demands
Many would say that we need more.
Is this so true?
Do you or I really need?
Furthermore, what is it we need?
What causes this indeed?
Everywhere I look, there seems to be a wanting.
It is nothing less than demanding.
Therefore, wanting evokes demanding.
How could this be?
Children so young, still others somewhat grown.
Age, size or shape really does not matter.
There is mostly dissatisfaction in everyone.
Some claim to need.
Others simply want.
It is in the rich and in the poor.
Moreover, who you are really does not matter.
There it is again; give me this or give me that.
Why, we may ask?
The needs seem constant.
We want more and at any cost.
There is an obsessive demanding.
It is a rampant fever.
This is a sickness to be true.
It began in the mind and pushed on through time.
The cure, I feel, is known… but seldom to be found.
It was lost long ago; why, no one knows.
How do we recovery?
It is no secret.
It was there from the start.
Simply look to what can be found in life.
The energy is there within. It is in your heart.
There is the key.
We are a gift of life.
Not this existence consisting of you or me.
I speak of life in its totality.
It is more than enough for us.
Just let life be and you will see.
Live with life as one.
Realizing this oneness will set you free.
